Perth International Arts Festival warmly congratulates our caption provider The Captioning Studio on their big win at The Deafness Forum 2011 National Captioning Awards in Sydney last night.

The Captioning Studio took out the award for Best Event Captioning in Australia for its GoTheatrical! Theatre Captioning service.

“This achievement is without doubt a team effort between ourselves and the Australian venues offering GoTheatrical! theatre captioning for their patrons,” The Captioning Studio co-founder Nari Jennings said. Perth International Arts Festival strives to make its program accessible to all patrons, by providing captioning to as many events as possible. This is driven by the objectives outlined in the University of Western Australia’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

Perth Festival General Manager Julian Donaldson said: “We thank the Captioning Studio for its role in our ongoing commitment to making the Festival accessible, inclusive and welcoming to all.”

The Captioning Studio provided captioning for seven Festival theatre productions in the 2011 Perth International Arts Festival.

The Festival also provided two live captioned events at the Perth Writers Festival along with Audio Descriptor and Tactile Tours for the Sight Impaired for three theatre productions.
